Some Key Things You Should Know About Offset Printing

Most organizations require a printing service on a regular basis, whether it is for marketing purposes or for internal communication. Offset printing is the most frequently used printing technology and learning about it is therefore helpful and important.

Offset printing can produce a large number of prints quickly, which makes it less costlier than other technologies and also more well known. Hence for bulk orders any good printing company would recommend you to go for offset printing.

The ink used during offset printing has oil as the medium and is insoluble in water. The offset printing gets its name from the fact that the designs are transferred in an indirect way from the plates to the paper by use of rubber blankets as the agents.

First step is to prepare the graphics. When offset printing began, the images had to be developed by the use of film negatives and they were later put on aluminum plates. However, a modern printing company would now develop the plates directly by using an image setting system. The next step is to attach the plate on to a cylinder in the right manner. Then the water and ink are dispersed on the image plates, one after another. The ink is poured over the image and to stop it from overflowing, a thin layer of water is put over the remaining part of the plate.

The image is then taken from the plates to the rubber blanket spun on another cylinder, so that it is reversed. Afterwards, sheets of paper of desired dimensions are put together and the rubber blankets transfer the image to the sheets on a third cylinder, where it comes out as the correct side.

Last steps of the printing job involve things such as stapling, pasting or organizing the printed sheets in line with the instructions of the customer, and any printing company should easily manage these.
