Budding Metamorphosis of Variable Data Printing

By Maricon Williams

It took several years for variable data printing to be accepted and recognized as one of the greatest attributes that the printing industry has. Its development happened gradually. Nevertheless, the rewards are so influential in the sense that its maturation was greatly appreciated.

Recently, TrendWatch Graphic Arts conducted a study about variable data printing in connection with viable sales opportunity for commercial printers. According to the study, 14% of commercial and quick printers see variable data printing as a sales opportunity for their businesses. On the other hand, 15% of all magazine publishing respondents and 22% of catalog publishing respondents said that they currently implement some variable data printing into their production.

Other notable facts from said research are the following: COMMERCIAL PRINTERS: 13% of all respondents see variable data printing as a sales opportunity for their businesses; while 14% of commercial/quick printers, 9% of trade shops and 27% of digital printers see variable data printing as a sales opportunity. CREATIVE PROFESSIONALS: 5% of all creatives see variable data printing as a top sales opportunity for their businesses, while 2% of graphic design firms, 7% of ad agencies, 9% of corporate designers, and 2% of commercial photographers see variable data printing as a top sales opportunity. CONSUMER PRODUCT COMPANIES: 6% of all CPCs see '1:1 personalized packaging' as a sales opportunity, as do 5% of CPCs printing flexo, 7% of CPCs printing offset, 8% of CPCs printing gravure, and 9% of CPCs printing digital.

According to Vince Naselli, Director of TrendWatch Graphic Arts, their research indicates that the success of variable data printing is directly related to proper technology, a honed business model, vision and creativity. He further added that the market is quickly becoming that of the haves and the have-nots.

It is nice to know that people mature in their choices. They are trying to get the best that they can have. They do try new things in order to discover its capabilities. And when they have proven its efficacy they are going to stick to it and enjoy its supremacy.

When it comes to technology, we have already experienced leaps. Advances in technology make us confident about our outputs. It makes us feel secured and sober all throughout the process. Not only that, it makes our complicated tasks simple, easy and worry-free. The budding metamorphosis of variable data printing will soon end up to a fully bloomed industry capable of standing at its own volition.
